125 Mile Cycle Ride

3rd Jun 2009 by Roger Vogel

Eight members and leaders of 1st Newbury Company completed a sponsored cycle ride in aid of Naomi House Childrens' Hospice near Winchester, on 9th and 10th May. Company Captain Roger Vogel commented, "The Company Section members have been fully involved with the event since we suggested a fundraising event for Naomi House at the start of the year. The idea was to cycle 125 miles. The boys planned the whole route from Newbury to Burley in the New Forest (where we camped overnight at the Youth Hostel) and the return Journey. The trip home was a bit quicker as we didn't have quite as many 'unplanned detours' where we missed a couple of turnings. The weather was absolutely spot on as well and we only had 4 punctures to deal with (although they were all on the same bike). The Company hopes to raise over £500 for Naomi House and the Anchor Boys and Junior section have also been active in fundraising with a recent sponsored silence and a planned car wash in the new future.
