"Sure & Steadfast" Atlantic 75 RNLI inshore lifeboat news from Harwich, Essex

The following appeared in the Friends of Harwich Lifeboat Newsletter: Many children as they grow up become members of.... youth clubs such as The Boys' Brigade....During the 1990's The Boys' Brigade decided to raise funds for The RNLI and funded two ILB's one in Scotland and the other here at Harwich.

At the naming ceremony in May 2003 the Harwich crew were pleased and honoured that the boat was named "Sure& Steadfast", Since then the ILB has lauched over 250 times and is credited with saving many lives. Since The Boys' Brigade donated the ILB to the Harwich Station, the crew here have established a rapport with members from 2nd. Witham BB. The boys regularly visit the station, and a Harwich Lifeboat Trophy has been presented to James Toddington, for his outstanding effort in becoming a RYA powerboat level 2 helm.

5th Kirkintilloch celebrates 50th anniversary

30th Apr 2008 by Stephen McKean

The 5th Kirkintilloch Boys' Brigade will soon be celebrating its 50th anniversary and we would like to invite any former boys, Queen's Men or Officers to join us in celebrating this milestone.

The 5th was formed on 17th Febuary 1958 (then the Life Boys) and our Company Section on 17th November 1958 and has run continuously since then. It is our intention to hold a series of events in November, hopefully covering most aspects of Company life.

Throughout the weekend we will have displays of Company memorabilia, if anyone has anything that they feel would be of interest to young or old please let us know. We will label any items with the donors name and ensure their safe return after the anniversary. Also we hope to hold a Celebration Dinner, if you would like to attend, please let us know.

For further information about the weekends events or to donate any items of historical significance please contact us by e-mail or phone:-

29th Apr 2008 by Keith Vinerd

On Saturday, 26th April 2008 the Nottingham Battalion again arranged and hosted national outdoor 5-a-side Football Competitions at the Powerleague Soccer Centre in Nottingham for members of The Boys' Brigade.

Following an initial entry of 33 teams from Ireland and England, 27 teams actually took part in the Competition. The Sheriff of Nottingham, Councillor Jeannie Packer, visited and presented the prizes.

There were trophies, individual medals and prizes. This event and the one in 2007 were funded with help towards the cost of prizes from The Co-operative Group's Community Dividend Fund and in addition this year The Rotary Club of Wollaton Park kindly made a grant and the local branch of Sainsbury's Supermarkets plc helped towards the catering costs.

Congratulations go to all those who took part in a splendid day. The 25th and 39th Nottingham Companies did the catering and the 44th Nottingham Company based at Clifton Methodist Church provided overnight accommodation on the Friday for the teams from Torquay and Lancashire.
